Bengaluru: Minority medical and dental colleges all across the state have raised their fee structures with this academic year beginning. The fee hike will range between 27% and 41 %. Entrants have no option but to pay more.

A consensual agreement has also been signed between the Karnataka Religious and Linguistic Minority Professional Colleges’ Association and the State government. The agreement leads to 88 medical seats and 75 dental seats being added to government quota.

The association has three medical colleges with 350 seats and six medical colleges with a total of 300 seats under it.

“Buckling under pressure and to convince minority college managements to give seats, we have increased the NRI quota and also drastically increased the fees for students who obtain seats in these colleges under the NEET scores, so that the government quota fee hike is less than 30 per cent,” a source said.

Agreement finalised, the Medical Education Department is awaiting the Linguistic Minority College Association’s consenting signatures, in order to hand over the seat matrix to the Karnataka Examinations Authority, which is already underway with the second round of counselling for the Common Entrance Test.
