Uttarakhand: MCI has given the letter of permission to Doon medical college for the 2016-17 academic year. The good news for the state residents comes after a long wait as earlier rounds of MCI inspection had failed to please the MCI. The medical college will offer 150 MBBS seats, with 85% seats for the state-quota. The admission to the college will be through Neet, as is the case in two other MBBS and two dental colleges in the state. In dental colleges 50 percent are offered under state quota. This decision was recently announced by the state government.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that Doon medical college is likely to get a final go-ahead from the MCI in this month. The principal secretary of health, Om Prakash and the Doon Medical College principal Dr. Pradeep Bharti Gupta has recently given an undertaking to MCI. The undertaking in principle assured the council that the college will rectify the minor points raised during inspection.

Doon medical college will offer 128 seats to local candidates. Two other medical colleges in Srinagar and Haldwani medical colleges will offer 85 seats each. 25 seats each will be offered in Himalayan Institute Jollygrant and Mahanth Indresh hospital. This makes a total of 348 MBBS seats under state quota, including 50 BDS seats each in Seema Dental College and Uttarakhand dental college offered.

"All the basic preparations to run the college had been done and we are all set to run the show efficiently from this year onward and year on year we will come with improved version and added course in the college. It is a huge moment for not just the medical college but entire state as its capital succeeded in getting government medical college after years of preparations." said principal of college, Dr. Pradeep Bharti Gupta to TOI.

CM Harish Rawat also visited the college premise recently. The visit of CM was accompanied by the medical superintendent of college Dr. KK Tamta and other senior doctors who were elated over the arrival of LOP by MCI today.
