Doon Medical College cancels doctor leaves in anticipation of MCI inspection
Dehradun: The Government Doon Medical College(GDMC) in view of the impending visit of the Medical Council of India for granting permission for MBBS admissions to the College's third batch has announced that it will cancel all leaves of doctors till the end of the month. The Council's inspecting team is supposed to visit the medical college and associated hospital in next few days.
The apprehension on the part of the college team is understandable as the college has many shortcomings to overcome before the team's arrival. The college administration would unlike the last time not want three inspections to be done before the LOP is granted.
The Doon Medical College Principal, Dr. Pradip Bharati Gupta confirmed that the doctors have been asked not to go on leave till April 30.

The MCI team had during its last visit objected to the faculty vacancies and the shortage of resident doctors too. The Council inspectors also found pharmacology, pathology forensic medicines, and Microbiology non-operational. The bed distance in wards was found not as per specification. The team had also pointed at the shortage of Medical Journals in the library and the lack of a separate section for eye surgery.
The first LOP to the college for admission of 150 students was granted in 2016, the second for another 150 was given the next year in 2017. The 3rd is expected this year in the month of July August for the NEET qualifiers reported the Pioneer.
The LOPs to the college were granted on the promise that the college would continuously upgrade its facilities and invite the council for its LOPs. The Doon Medical College will eventually have to upgrade itself for a 750-bed hospital from the present 350 associated one.
