Doctor duped of Rs 5.50 lakh on promise of MBBS seat for ward at Karnataka Medical College

Mumbai: A doctor, who wanted to get his son admitted in a reputed Karnataka based medical college to pursue MBBS, has been cheated of Rs 5.50 lakh allegedly by consultancy firm run three fraudsters, who promised a medical seat.

According to a recent report by DNA, the doctor filed a complaint with the police after realising that he had been duped and the police are trying to nab the accused who are currently absconding.

In his complaint, the doctor informed he was seeking an MBBS seat at a Bengaluru based medical college. He came across an ad published in a Marathi newspaper which read 'Associates Consultant' situated in Powai which guaranteed MBBS admission. Thereafter, he contacted the agency.

The accused reportedly confirmed him an MBBS seat in a reputed medical college for his son only if he paid them Rs 18 lakh. They asked him to pay Rs Rs 1 lakh in advance and the remaining in small instalments after assuring admission for MBBS course

The doctor then tried to get admission, however, the accused asked for more money, claiming that the medical college management had demanded it.

Realising that he was being cheated, the doctor tried to reach out to the accused and ask for his money back but given numbers were switched off.

Informing DNA about the case, the police officials stated, "After receiving the complaint an FIR has been registered against the trio."

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported about a similar case where an Andhra Pradesh based doctor contacted a consultancy for getting a medical seat at any of the reputed medical colleges in Karnataka state.

The doctor was assured by the firm that he would get an MBBS seat at Subbaiah Institute of Medical Sciences, a well-known medical college in Karnataka with 150 MBBS seats.
