DME receives proposal from Karur Medical College for student admissions

Karur: Karur Medical College is likely to begin admissions for the year 2019-20 after the directorate of medical education submits its proposal to the Medical Council of India(MCI).


Dean, Karur Medical College, Rosy Vennila informed that she had already submitted the proposal to the Directorate which shall in no time be forwarding it to the MCI. 150 students are to be admitted in the college once the proposal is through.


According to the dean, the MCI team is to visit Karur college in September to inspect infrastructure and the existing Government Hospital in Karur as well which us to be affiliated to the Karur Medical College.


According to Ms. Vennila, the construction at Karur was progressing well as departments of anatomy, physiology and biochemistry were required essential for conducting classes for first-year MBBS students. Construction works she said for these departments would reach completion in the next three months.


She also assured that the administrative structure and students hostels would be ready well in time for the Council visit.


Dr. Vennila was confident that the MCI approval would come as the present Government Hospital affiliated to the college at Karur had 400 beds reports the Hindu.


According to him 70 doctors, including specialists, in various departments. a record performance of high-end surgeries and a footfall of 1,500 to 1,800 outpatients daily was bound to win it the MCI approval.


The available infrastructure of the hospital she said was more than the standard requirements of MCI.


Additional blocks with 700 more beds beside the existing 400 would be established at the new premises she revealed. All works would be completed before classes began for the first year in 2019-20, the dean assured.
