Depressed over Poor Exams: 2nd-year MBBS student of Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences commits suicide

Preliminary inquiry revealed that the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences MBBS student was unable to perform well in her first-year examinations.

Kochi: In an unfortunate incident, a 2nd-year MBBS student hailing from Delhi allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the top floor of the building of Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. The medico was reportedly depressed over her poor performance in the first year exams.

The case relates to a 20-year-old MBBS student of Kerala Medical College, who recently returned to the medical college after spending holidays. On September 24, 2019 (Tuesday), the medical student jumped from the sixth floor of the college building around 12:30 in noon. She was rushed to the hospital by other medical students around, however, she was dead.

A case of unnatural death with the Cheranelloor police has been registered and a probe is on. The investigating officers spoke to the MBBS student's fellow mates. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the MBBS student was unable to perform well in her first-year examinations. Depressed with her poor performance, the medico had applied for a re-evaluation of her answer sheets. However, the results remained the same even after re-evaluation. As per the cops, this might have driven her to end her life.

Talking to The New Indian Express, a police officer stated that the real reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a 2^nd year PG medical student pursuing MD Pathology from Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences (Saifai Medical University); allegedly committed suicide by hanging to a ceiling fan in her hostel room at the medical varsity's campus. The MD medico was discovered hanging when the foul smell was noticed emanating from her room and the room was locked from outside.
