Dental college celebrates Oral Health Day

Mumbai: The Government Dental College and Hospital celebrated the Oral Hygiene Day, to highlight the importance of dental health for an overall healthy body.


Mansing Pawar, Dean of the hospital, said as part of creating awareness in public on World Oral Health Day, posters displayed correct brushing techniques with usage of suitable toothbrush and fluoridated dentifrice, periodontal health and importance of interdental aids to minimise plaque accumulation.


Rajesh Gaikwad, head of the department of Periodontics said awareness regarding cancer risk factors, early diagnosis, premalignant lesions and precancerous conditions were also depicted using posters.



"Grave ill effects of both, smoking and smokeless forms of tobacco were also explained to the public," Gaikwad said.

Demonstration to train mothers in issues like bottle feeding, unhealthy diet and deciduous teeth cleaning too were held.


Gaikwad further said that demonstration of brushing, flossing and use of mouthwash were given and videos, explaining oral and systemic health connection, importance of diet, preventive measures for securing periodontal future, importance of timely visits to a dentist were shown on LCD screens.
