Delhi: Two arrested for duping MBBS Aspirant

Delhi: The Kolkata Police has arrested two conmen, accused of falsely promising MBBS admission to a Delhi-based medical student into a private medical college. The duo has allegedly conned the MBBS student of lakhs of rupees.

The cops chanced upon the gang that had chosen the SSKM Hospital to strike a deal after an MBBS aspirant got into a verbal duel with the accused over the mode of payment.

According to the statement made by the Police to the news agency UNI, the medical aspirant from Delhi has allegedly been duped of Rs 6 lakh by a man, identified as one Chandan Ponda. The amount was part of Rs 70 lakh, quoted by the fraudster, for the admission. The MBBS aspirant alleged that she was contacted by a man named M Haq, who promised to get her admission into the private medical college at Budge Budge in South 24 Parganas through management quota.

In the con process, the student, her father and a relative were taken to a hotel at Park Circus from the airport on 13th November and were told to come to SSKM Hospital on the following day.

However, they understood that they were being cheated after Haq's agent demanded more money for starting the admission process.

During the negotiations, they raised an alarm and some onlookers came to rescue the trio and held the conman.

Police also arrested one of his accomplice, identified as one Bisnudeb Pramanik, based on the information divulged by him.

"This was not a fly-by-the-night gang. They had a well-oiled modus operandi. We have arrested two persons - Bishnudeb Pramanik and Chandan Panda - hailing from Tamluk," an IPS officer at Lalbazar told TOI. The accused were produced in court where they were bailed out.
