DCI denies renewal to Dental College in Aurangabad

Aurangabad: The union government has recently received a not so good status report from the Dental Council of India (DCI) about Government Dental College and Hospital Aurangabad. The report submitted clearly implies that the council has noted infrastructural and more deficiencies at the dental college; therefore, recommending the union government not to grant renewal to the college for the third year BDS course in this academic year. It also means the government dental college will not be likely given renewal permission for additional of 40-50 seats at its premise.

DCI's inspection team noted a deficiency in staff which includes professor of oral pathology deputed in DME Mumbai. Besides, there is shortage of 2 professors in the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics departments. Also, and the department of Paedontics lacks one reader.

Lack of medical equipment in different departments leading to deficiency in functioning of these departments has been noted by the council.

The reports also highlights the fact that the pre-clinical prosthodontics and dental material lab is established on a smaller area in comparison to what was sanctioned. The same deficiency has been noted in other major pre-clinical labs, including pathology.

When contacted, college dean Dr SP Dange told

TOI, "There are shortcomings at the government level as well as at the level of the PWD. The state health minister has called me on Monday for filing a detailed affidavit about the situation and we will be getting three months' time for meeting the criteria."
