Rs 1,000 Crore Revamp Bringing SCB Medical College At Par With AIIMS to begin

Bhubaneswar: The Rs 1,000 crore development project for modernizing and revamping of the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack is about to commence. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wherein he stated that the Rs 1,000-crore developmental work of SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack will commence in March.

In November last year, Patnaik had announced a package of Rs 1,000 crore for development of the SCB Medical College Hospital. Medical Dialogues had reported that state-of-the-art and the 3,000-bed integrated hospital will be created with the latest medical facilities.

"SCB Medical College and Hospital has been serving the people of Odisha for many years. It has produced brilliant doctors who have served and continue to serve patients not only in Odisha but across the globe. They are the pride of our state. It is now upon us to transform this great institution into a world-class facility," Patnaik had stated that time adding "We will create a state-of-the-art 3,000 bedded integrated hospital equipped with latest medical facilities. We should be able to compare ourselves with the best in the country. In fact, our transformational goal should be AIIMS plus."

According to a recent PTI report, the CM announced that the revamp will begin in March this year.

The SCB Medical College Hospital will be expanded by acquiring additional land from water resources, skill development and fisheries departments, an official said.

Sriram Chandra Bhanj Medical College & Hospital (SCB Medical College) ranks 14th in the country. It is a pioneer medical institute in Eastern India in medical teaching, training, research and patient care. This Institution is situated in the City of Cuttack with a sprawling campus of 87.32 acres. It has been recognized by MCI (Medical Council of India) as an ideal undergraduate institution facilitating education and training in super specialty subjects under medical and surgical disciplines.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the state government will set up a medical college at Phulbani in Kandhamal, upgrading the existing hospital at the district headquarters.
