Chandigarh: Medical dental teachers put forward demands for next government

Chandigarh:A demoralized and protesting medical fraternity of medical and dental teachers working in state run government healthcare institutions is hoping for a better deal from the next state government to come.

In a joint press release issued, the state's Medical and Dental Association President HS Sohal, and General Secretary,DS Bhullar said:

"The previous government failed to accept even a single demand of the medical and dental teachers in spite of our best efforts for more than five years. The government totally ignored our genuine demands leading to a strong protest and demoralization in the medical fraternity of the state government," reports the Tribune

The joint statement raises the following demands to be met with by the next ruling Government:

• better working conditions in the hospitals


• Policy to be drafted for regular promotion of the medical and dental teachers under the state government, which is already there in private institutes ,as per the MCI regulations.


• The guidelines of the Medical Council of India, to be followed in toto in medical colleges under the Punjab government.


• Stake holders and medical teacher representatives to be involved in decision making in matters pertaining to teacher's interests and medical education in the country


• The government to open more medical colleges in the state and restoration of PIMS to the government from private body


• Lessening of income tax burden on doctors through a uniform policy


• Immediate release of the sixth Punjab Pay Commission report without any discrimination between Medical and dental teachers


• Medical education and health to be given top priority, with affordable best health services.
