Chandigarh: As a relief for the MBBS aspirants in the city, the Government Medical College and Hospital(GMCH), Sector 32, will seek permission for increasing the MBBS seats from a 100 to 150.

According to sources the Director/Principal, GMCH, Dr AK Janmeja has been directed by the Home/Health Secretary, Anurag Agarwal to initiate the permission seeking process. Principal Dr. Janmeja said GMCH was equipped to add more seats in the college.

The recently added infrastructure is an indication to the expansion the college has undergone in the past years. While two blocks have come on, as add ons, to the Sector 32 building, a residential colony and hostel are supposed to be included in Sector 48. The drawings for the project have been finalized by the Department of Architecture.

The college which started with 50 seats increased the number to a 100, four years ago, with the Council's (MCI) approval.

The college had been given a super specialty department nod recently, and many MD courses have also been started.
