Biometric attendance in Medical Colleges

The Minister of State (Health and Family Welfare), Sh Faggan Singh Kulaste stated, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha about the Biometric Attendance in medical colleges. The reply is as follows


Medical Council of India (MCI) with the prior approval of the Central Government has notified amendment in the Minimum Standard Requirement for 50/100/150/200/250 MBBS Admission Annually Regulations, 1999 for prescribing installation of biometric fingerprint attendance machine and close circuit television (CCTV) in all medical colleges under its ambit to maintain constant vigil on the standard of medical education.



As per the information provided by MCI, as on 28.02.2017, 985 biometric devices have been installed at 90 Medical Colleges and total 41000 faculties are enrolled for the purpose.


As the amendment has been made in the Minimum Standard Requirement for 50/100/150/200/250 MBBS Admission Annually Regulations, 1999, installation of biometric fingerprint attendance machine will be mandatory to open a medical college.
