Bihar: Fake patients at GMC Bettiah leaves MCI in shock

Bihar: Recent visit by MCI to GMC Bettiah left the inspection team in shock as they found fake patients lying down in women’s surgical ward at the medical college hospital. GMC Bettiah has applied for renewal of permission for admitting fourth batch of MBBS students.

"One they don’t look like patients" , one member of the inspection team said and then, "they are also not being administered like patients who have just undergone a surgery."

When suspicious, the council during its inspection round also checked the admission register. As quoted by TOI, The team was suspicious of the fact with what was looking like an alleged ‘Munna bhai’ set up at the ward. Patients were seen in a relaxed mood, with no post-surgical accessories around them. It seemed like no steps were taken to administer the patients of saline water, or anything associated with a routine treatment post-surgery. As a result of which, the MCI team left the premise expressing their clear dissatisfaction.

"Mamta or ASHA worker may have been admitted with ailments, but certainly it is not true that we admitted fake patients," principal of the college Dr Rajiv Ranjan Prasad TOI.

"Today's visit by the MCI team was for compliance verification of the last inspection done in October last year," the principal said, adding that the medical college facilities have been bettered to meet the MCI guidelines. "We are confident of getting full recognition by the MCI after its fifth and final inspection," the principal added.

During its third inspection visit, there have been 40 deficiencies pointed in the medical college. After their recent visit to the college, the team inspected the college in detail including the hospital. It also did a verification of teacher’s attendance and doctors on duty.

In addition, the operation theatres, labour room, OPD, X-ray, pathological were also inspected by the visiting MCI members.
