Bethel Medical Mission: CID to look into forgery and fake mark certification Charges
Bengaluru: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will be probing the scandal of fake nursing mark cards and provisional degree certificates that hit the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) a few months ago. This is being done since prima facie it is indicated that a larger racket is operating in the state. Meanwhile, specific cases of forged documents are being linked to colleges run by the Bethel Medical Mission.
A 1,200-page report detailing the fraud involved was submitted by the RGUHS before the varsity’s syndicate on Friday. The 2 volume report has the Ist talk of deciphered technical data from the CDs, and hard disks and the 2nd speak of the other documents seized from Bethel Medical Mission.
Bethel Medical Mission, Chairman, Sunny D, talking to the TOI said, “ based on the claims of the university, about 38 students from our colleges were summoned to the Tilak Nagar police station, where we proved that all of them had original marks cards. Nobody from our college had anything that the university termed as fake. It is now for the university to prove where it got the fake certificates from.”
He felt that efforts were on to tarnish the name of their group as they represented the minorities. "All of their other claims are also false and we will demand that the government ensures that there is a fair probe and we want action taken against officials who are targetting us. There are also some forces outside the university influencing the officials," added Sunny.
V Manjula, Additional Chief Secretary, Medical Education, however, contradicting Sunny’s stand that his institutions were being targeted being representative of the minorities said that there was evidence to show the falsity of documents recovered and forgery committed.
"What the committee has found in its report is only the tip of the iceberg and we think that a larger, more detailed investigation is required in the matter, which is why we forwarded the case to the home department. The home department has since ordered a CID probe," she added.
Manjula revealed that she has also written a letter to the "director general and inspector general of police (DG&IGP) on May 31, seeking a speedy investigation.
Meanwhile, RGUHS Vice-Chancellor, MK Ramesh, emphasized that the committee’s findings were based on hard evidence. He said “People believe that they can arm-twist the university and get away with their frauds by moving the court or going to the police with false complaints. But facts are facts and that’s what the report has. This is a strong message to all those violating rules."
The department and the university will initiate action on all those who have indulged in forgery and violation of rules once the CID completes its task.
Medical Dialogues in the month of March had reported that a group of 8 men had come inspecting Bethel Medical Mission College on behalf of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), on March 7, They were alleged to have absconded with original land documents of the college computer hard drives, CPUs and a sum of Rs 1 crore, collected by the college as fee for the year, by breaking open the cash box. The college officials who objected at the outset, as there was no prior intimation from the RGUHS about this inspection, were told by the inspection officials that they were there as per the directions of the In-charge Vice-Chancellor of RGUHS.
