Gujarat: The state’s dental course admissions face a crisis with 71% seats remaining vacant after the first round of admissions. The medical scene doesn’t bring good tidings either with 245 seats remaining vacant.

The Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate Medical Courses (ACPUGMEC) has revealed that a total 1,125 seats for dental courses were available at the start of the admission process with them, of which 795 (71%) remained vacant at the end of it which is about 71% of the total seats.

On Thursday, the last date for confirming admissions, there were 245 seats vacant for medical course informed officials. Giving reasons for the vacant seats the committee stated that fake domicile certification or high fee could be the two reasons for medical aspirants not joining.

In dental courses, they further added that students preferred entering the admission fray after the Ayurveda admissions were completed. The Ayurveda admission is facing incessant delay as the council approvals have yet to come.

Meanwhile, the second round of admissions for medical and dental courses will be delayed as the second round of admissions for the 15% All India quota has yet to begin reported TOI.

The ACPUGMEC in order to stay away from a third round reshuffling has taken a decision to start the 2nd medical and dental course admissions after the second round of admission for all India quota is complete.

The vacancies that arise after the All India quota admission round are returned to the to the state government to fill up with their students.
