New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the Ministry of AYUSH has invited applications for Internship Programme- 2019 at the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) . The last date of application is 5th July,2019
The National Medicinal Plant Board (NMPB) has been set up under the Ministry of AYUSH with the objective to have an agency which would be responsible to coordinate all matters related to Medicinal Plants including drawing of policies and strategies for conservation, proper harvesting, cost effective cultivation, research & development, processing, marketing of raw material in order to protect, sustain and develop this sector.

1.1 The mandate of NMPB is directly related to the promotion of AYUSH sector as majority of raw material of AYUSH medicines, food supplements and nutraceuticals are derived from medicinal herbs and plants. The importance of this sector is multidimensional and is primarily linked with the livelihood and revenue generation of farmers. Considering the economic importance of medicinal plants, there is an urgent need to systematically cultivate them to exploit their full economic potential and to save them from extinction. It, therefore, requires, inter-alia, financial support, innovative ideas, hybrid seed and plants, modem & technological support, facilities for direct marketing and encouragement to the farmers to tilt their inclination to grow more medicinal plants. This apart, increased productivity will have chain reaction to meet the demand of pharmaceutical companies for raw material, growth in India's share in world market of medicinal plant and products which at present is merely 2.5 percent. It, thus, can play a crucial role in achieving the government initiative for doubling the farmers' income by 2022 and thereby accelerating economic growth of nation.
1.2 To meet the increasing demand and also to address the quality, standardization, marketing along with policy formation, it is necessary to develop manpower in this sector who can work on various aspects of this sector. In accordance with NITI Ayog's directive would involve the young academic talents to groom them for giving them exposure to various aspects of MPs along with small targeted short term projects during their internship.
2. Objective: The objective of the Scheme is to hone the skill of young talent in medicinal plant sector. The "Interns" shall have an opportunity to learn about NMPB Schemes and Policy on Medicinal Plants development in the following areas:
i. Raw Material Standardization;
ii. Germplasm conservation;
iii. Marketing and Trade related issues;
iv. Agro technology;
v. Policy & Regulations;
vi. Mandi Study;
vii. Documentation and project outcomes;
viii. Supply Chain Management;
ix. Awareness Programmes;
x. Research & Development activities.
3. Purpose: The purpose of "Internship" is to allow short term exposure of "selected candidates" in different fields of Medicinal Plants sector.
4. Eligibility Criteria: Students pursuing a full time Under Graduate Degree/Post Graduate Degree/Diploma or higher degree from a recognized institute/University within India/abroad.
5. Field: AYUSH Systems, Forestry, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Agriculture,Management, Sociology, Law, Botany, Pharmacognosy, Medicinal Plants, Environmental Sciences etc.
6. Number of Internship: Total 10 internship shall be given during a financial year. The Internship shall be available throughout the year.
7. Period of Internship: The period of Internship shall be of 1-3 months as per course curriculum requirement of the concerned Institute/University. The internship will be available during summer (April-June) and Winter (December-February).
8. Award of Certificate: A certificate regarding successful completion of internship shall be issued by CEO, in the format at Annex-I. Interns, who fail to complete the requisite period of internship and submit the project report, will not get any certificate and matter will be reported to respective Institution/University.
9. Status of Engagement: Intern.
10. Stipend: The interns will be paid consolidated stipend of Rs. 10,000/- per month (Only for those who are not availing any other fellowship). No other allowances shall be admissible.
11. Internship module:
i. 1 day — orientation of overall activities of NMPB and assignment of project work.
ii. After that, Interns will work on the assigned projects. They will also have opportunity of interaction with experts, exposure of seminars and field visits.
iii. Intern will also be encouraged to visit any of the NMPB funded project.
iv. Mid Term review.
v. Final presentation of the project & experiencing sharing.
vi. Farewell & certificate distribution.
12. How to Apply:
i. Interested students may apply in the prescribed format given in Annex-II through respective Institution/University. Application in any other format will not be entertained.
ii. Application must contain recommendation / sponsorship of competent authority from the recognized academic institution, where the candidate is pursuing her/his studies. Applications received without recommendations will not be entertained.
iii. Applicants are required to submit a synopsis on the topic (must relate to NMPB) she/he intends to work upon during the internship in 500 words along with their applications. Synopsis should broadly cover a brief introduction of the topic, objectives of the study, methodology to be employed and bibliography.
iv. All the relevant certificates (attested) should also be scanned, self-attested and uploaded along with the application if it is on line.
v. Applications in the prescribed format complete in all respects may be sent by post to - The Chief Executive Officer, 1st Floor, India Red Cross Annexe Building, Red Cross Road, Near Parliament House, New Delhi- 110 001. Application can also be submitted online along with a hard copy by post.
12. Process of Scrutiny: NMPB will advertise the notification on its website for inviting applications for intern. All the application will be scrutinized by a Committee. The list of selected interns will be uploaded on the website. The candidate selected will have to join within the stipulated time. Those who fail to join, their candidature will stand rejected.
13. Project Topics: The NMPB will itself evolve as well as seek innovative topics from the public which are useful for the growth of medicinal Plant sector, to assign to the Interns.
14. Project Evaluation: An Expert Committee of NMPB will evaluate the project reports of the intern and will churn out innovative ideas and submit the evaluation report to CEO for further action.
15. Other terms & conditions:
i. Interns will work in the premises of NMPB or as directed by NMPB.
ii. The competent authority or nominee of the institution or referee recommending the candidature for internship, is expected to be available for interactions with NMPB, if required.
iii. No leave will be admissible other than casual leave limited to one per month.
iv. No TA/DA will be allowed for joining NMPB.
v. In case she/he desires to discontinue from intern only on unavoidable circumstances CEO's permission is required, 05 days' notice is required to be given by the candidate and no certificate will be given in such cases.
vi. In case NMPB requires the services of interns on closed days, no compensation in lieu of it or conveyance charges shall be admissible. The intern has to make necessary arrangement at his/her own cost.
vii. If any declaration given or information furnished by the candidate proves to be false or if the candidate is found to have wilfully suppressed any material/information, her/his contract engagement is liable to be terminated immediately and such other action will be taken as the NMPB may deem necessary.
viii. In case of resignation, the intern will have to pay back the stipend with 10% penalty.
ix. The engagement will not confer any right for appointment to any post under NMPB.
x. Selected candidates are required to execute a bond.
xi. Interns are required to give an undertaking on non-judicial stamp paper of Rs.20.00 prior to joining the internship that:
a) She/he does not possess any right to a placement for job/employment.
b) She/he shall strictly maintain full confidentiality and secrecy of any information/matter relating to NMPB.
c) She/he will complete the assigned task within the stipulated time.
16. Saving clause: NNIPB reserves the right to review the scheme at any time. The Scheme so reviewed will be placed on the website of NMPB. CEO, being the Chairperson, will have the power to relax any of the conditions mentioned above, in respect of any deserving candidate.
