APCC asks govt to approach SC over implmentation of GO 550
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) spokesperson Kolanukonda Shivaji demanded the state government to approach the Supreme Court to implement reservation in medical college seats to BCs as per the Government Order 550.
In a statement here on Saturday, he said that in the allocation of medical seats, if a BC candidate gets a medical seat in an open competition category, and gives up the seat sometime later to join in other colleges in the BC reservation quota (sliding), the vacant seat should be allocated to the BC candidate only as per the GO 550.
However, the High Court had struck down the implementation of GO 550 and permitted to fill up the vacant medical seat by an open category candidate. Without taking immediate steps for the revival and implementation of GO 550 by approaching the Apex Court, the state government is passing time. Medical seats were being allocated to the BC candidates for the last 17 years as per the GO 550, he reminded.
Mr Shivaji, also a pupular BC leader, said that as per the MCI rules, the counselling for filling up medical seats should be completed by August 31. He demanded the government to approach the Top Court to get a "Stay Order" on the High Court's judgement. He also demanded to revoke the first phase of medical counselling.
