Another Indira Gandhi Medical College campus under construction: HP CM
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has recently announced that another campus of the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) was being constructed near here to ensure quality and specialised health services.
The Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, is a premier medical institute in the state and its second campus will come at Chamiyana near the state capital.
The state government is committed to make the institute the best medical institute in the state by equipping it with latest equipment and technologies, Thakur said.
The campus at Chamiyana is being built by spending Rs 150 crore, he said at the 52nd foundation day-cum-CME and alumni meet of the IGMC.
The chief minister also released a souvenir and annual magazine of the IGMC on the occasion.
Health Minister Vipin Singh Parmar said the IGMC started as a medical college with 50 MBBS seats in 1966 and today it has become a premier institute with 100 seats.
He said adequate doctors and paramedical staff are being recruited in all the health institutions of the state.
Director, PGI Chandigarh and IGMC alumni, Dr Jagat Ram said in order to succeed in life one has to take small initiatives towards the goal daily and be a lifelong student.
