Andhra Pradesh: Naidu lays the foundation stone of VIMS

Vishkhapatnam: With a view to facilitate state’s population, chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu laid down the foundation stone of Vishakhapatnam institute of medical sciences (VIMS).


While inaugurating the VIMS Naidu said, that this new super specialty hospital will provide the services like Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad. Along with the existence of several other hospitals, this new super specialty hospital will prove to be health hub in the state, reported Hindu.


The new super speciality hospital will be equipped with the High-end equipment of international standards like operation tables, beds, etc.


All the equipment that has been procured, like operation theatre tables, lights, monitors, anaesthesia machine, 50 beds, furniture like tables and chairs for doctors and patients at a cost of Rs.22 crore, is of world class and meets the high-end specifications prescribed for the hospital, its OSD and HoD of Plastic Surgery of AMC and KGH P.V, reported to Hindu.


The total 300 beds are required to provide the facility of new super speciality hospital. First 50 beds are being arranged to meet any emergency services. Only after finding the first installment of beds of top quality, the VIMS will ask the supplier to provide the remaining 300 beds.


“No compromise was allowed on the equipment and the earlier consignment has been sent back. We got the world-class equipment in return”, Dr. Sudhakar said.


A team of thirty doctors, including senior residents will treat the patients. 17 doctors are being deputed from hospitals in Tirupati, Kakinada, Nellore and Vizianagaram and 15 will lead the hospital.


The HODs of super speciality departments of neurology, neurosurgery, nephrology, urology, plastic surgery, gastroenterology, endocrinology, medicine, surgery and orthopaedics of the KGH will visit severally to properly guide the doctors working at VIMS.


At the inauguration ceremony Naidu said, while on one hand the super speciality hospital will facilitate quality healthcare within the state, on the other hand this new opening will open the new doors of medical tourism.


He also pointed out that Tata Memorial Centre was also setting up a specialised hospital for treatment of cancer patients in the city.


With the view to convert VIMS into a top class super speciality hospital like AIIMS and NIMS, hospital authorities has made an announcement to attach it to NTRUHS .


PG courses will only be started after the first batch of final year students completed their academic session.
