Andhra Pradesh HC order leads to Senior Residentship Counselling being halted

Vijaywada: Admissions of Senior Residentships came to a halt on Friday, after the Hyderabad High Court stayed the GO 99 issued by the State government.The DMER issued a directive to the college managements asking them to stop the counselling process for senior resident-ship of PG Medical students until further orders from the court. Students reacted happily to the court decision


Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about the GO 99 that was cancelled by the High Court Mandates that PG students on completion of their medical course are to serve the hospital of the same college for a year instead of opting to work for a government hospitals. The court was granting the students right to freedom of choice in case of matters of service, by ordering a stay on GO 99.

The said government order, allowed students of the convener quota(Both degree and diploma) to go in for compulsory government service by working in the public sector hospitals for a period of one year after successful completion of their academic program. The candidates under the management quota, however are to work as senior resident for a year in their parent institution(Private hospital).


Speaking to Express, Dr T Shilpa, PG medical student, said, "We are very happy over the court's order. Our motto is to do service for the underprivileged and for that, we demanded the government to take back the GO 99. The department should cancel the counselling took place on July 12 for the students of convener quota and conduct a fresh one for Senior residentship."


A few private colleges, however are unwilling to release the PG academic certificates to the students stating that the court order copy must reach the managements officially.


Director, Medical Education has sent a circular to all the colleges asking them to hold the counselling process for Senior resident-ship, for both private and convener quota students. Those who have joined the hospitals by now should skip the duties until the final decision from the court the circular adds..


"We are discussing the issue with the higher officials and after that we would frame a fresh guidelines and issue a GO. We are also trying to constitute a committee and and discuss the issue," said N Subbarao, DME.
