Andhra Medical college to offer 200 MBBS seats

Andhra Medical College has received approval from the health ministry to offer 200 medical seats for this academic year. It will now offer an addition of 50 MBBS seats for the fifth time, during the 2016-17 academic session also. This news has been further confirmed by the Principal S.V. Kumar.


An official communication over the matter has now been exchanged between the health ministry and the college, stating renewal of permission for 200 MBBS seats. The college is in receipt of the permission in writing now.


This is for the fifth consecutive year that the college will be admitting 200 students, after its intake was increased from 150, said S V Kumar to Hindu.


He thanked Vice-Principal G. Venkateswara Reddy, the then Vice-Principal (academic) N. Subba Rao, Assistant Principal P.V.S.S. Vijaya Babu and other faculty and staff for their efforts in this regard.


Andhra Medical College will soon be upgraded as referred eye hospitals in the state. The news has been confirmed by Telangana, Director of Medical Education T. Venugopala Rao recently. This development is on similar lines like Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Hyderabad, Telangana.


During a recent visit to AMC, Dr. Venugopala Rao implied that the government’s plan to start Vision Centres in teaching hospitals with an objective to screen and treat eye diseases with the support of Aravind Eye Hospital and LV Prasad Eye Institute.


In addition, the teaching faculty and staff are expected to be present during the working hours between 9 am and 4 pm always, and make continuous efforts to improve the academic standards of the college. The Principal S.V. Kumar, Superintendent of King George Hospital M. Madhusudhana Babu, and HoDs were also present during the interaction with Dr Rao. Commenting on the functioning of the hospitals, Dr Rao that monthly clinical audit meetings will be conducted soon for the purpose of improving the quality of patient care in the hospitals in the state.
