Patna: An independent committee to probe into alleged irregularities in Faculty appointments at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Patna in 2012 have been ordered by Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Ashwini Kumar Choubey. An announcement to this effect was made by the Minister, this Sunday. The report is to be submitted in a month.

Speaking to officials of AIIMS Patna at a high-level meeting at Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi, the Minister issued the order and said: “Strict action will be taken against those found responsible for the irregularities in the appointment of the faculty at AIIMS-Patna.”

The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) had in March served show-cause notices to 19 faculty members of AIIMS-P on allegations of irregularities in their appointments.

The Vikash Arya inquiry committee set up by the health ministry is believed to have made the allegations reported TOI.

The committee, in its report submitted in 2014made the following allegations:

  • Irregularities found in the documents submitted regarding academic qualifications.

  • anomalies in the required teaching experience of the faculty members, on the basis of which the appointments were made.

Earlier, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, PATNA had been questioned by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) about why the show cause notices served on the 17 teachers four years after the submission of the inquiry report should not be quashed.

The notices were served in 2012, as an outcome of the report submitted by the Vikash Arya Inquiry Committee, (set up by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare), meant to probe the anomalies in the AIIMS- Patna teacher appointments, made in response to an advertisement in 2011.

The committee found the appointed faculty ineligible for the posts and submitted its report in 2014.

The notices were served to the 17 teachers, this year, after the AIIMS-P Director received a written intimation, dated February 26, 2018, from the Union Ministry for termination of the 17 faculty members through proper procedure.
