AIIMS Bathinda welcomes its maiden 50 MBBS students

Bathinda, Aug 26 : The most-awaited mega project of Punjab's Malwa region, the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhatinda (AIIMS Bhatinda), finally opened it's doors for the first batch of MBBS students recently.

AIIMS Bhatinda welcomed around 50 MBBS students for the fresh batch who will study at the institute's temporary campus in Faridkot-based Guru Gobind Singh Medical College (GGSMC), which is a running body under the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS).

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has declared PGIMER, Chandigarh as the mentor Institute for operationalization of various activities at AIIMS, Bathinda (Punjab). The recruitment for AIIMS Bhatinda is also on as recently PGI Chandigarh releases 25 vacancies for Senior Resident, SR Demonstrators Posts at the institute .

AIIMS Bhatinda came into being in 2016 when the foundation of institute was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his first tenure. It is estimated to be Rs 950-crore project, being constructed on Bathinda-Dabwali road, over an area of 177 acres.

The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences new (AIIMS) at Bhatinda Punjab aims at providing super-specialty healthcare to the population while creating a large pool of doctors and other health workers in this region that can be available for primary and secondary level institutions being created under National Health Mission (NHM).

The Bathinda AIIMS is a 750-bed premier medical institute with 10 specialty departments and 11 super-specialty departments. The institute has begun its maiden batch with 50 MBBS students

The chief minister reiterated his government's commitment to ensuring the early operationalization of AIIMS Bathinda, the progress of which was being monitored on a regular basis, added the spokesperson.
