Punjab: Absence of Principal leads to disaffiliation of 5 Dental Courses
Punjab : Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital, Punjab University, is facing disaffiliation of five master courses of dental surgery by the Dental Council of India, in the absence of a principal, at the institute. The health ministry had earlier signaled towards the same, so the ball is now in the council's court
It is reported, The MCI,earlier on had insisted on the same during an inspection.
The dental college was actually seeking approval for specialized courses in masters of dental surgery by adding three more seats. According to sources at the university, an inspection was conducted for the same by the DCI . The conclusion at the end was exactly the opposite pointing out at the courses be discontinued, for the next academic session. The reason for discontinuation is primarily identified to be the absence of an appointee principal.
“There has been some confusion over the post of the institute’s principal. We have recently adopted a three-year rotation policy at the institute after it was approved by the university Syndicate. So, we have assured the Union ministry that before the commencement of the new session, appointment of a new regular principal will be done and the confusion pointed out by the DCI will also be sorted,” reported a Punjab university official to Chandigarh’s Indian Express Newsline.
The Acting Principal, Mr. Ashish Jain is a a regular professor, is serving as the Director/Principal at Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Science and Hospital. A meeting between the PU vice-chancellor Arun Kumar Grover and registrar Col G S Chadha (Retd) and the Health Ministry officials took place on Wednesday in New Delhi. On the principal issue a University spokesperson added,“As such, there is no issue. But, some confusion has come up related to the three-year rotation policy of the institute, which is likely to be clarified by the ministry.”
Earlier in March, when an executive committee of the Medical Council of India (MCI) had visited the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, it had maintained that the Centre not renew the permission for admission of the 4th batch of MBBS students against the increased intake from 50 to 100. The matter was then taken up by Health Secretary, Anurag Aggarwal, who stated that a final decision was awaited, and GMCH-32 was looking into ensuring that the student intake was retained.
