Ongole: Apprehensions among Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Science's (RIMS) first batch are running high regarding granting of recognition to RIMS by the Medical Council of India(MCI). The approval still lies pending with the apex education regulator. The Council nod gains eminence in order to prevent them from losing an academic year and also for applying to various post graduate courses.

A section of RIMS students who were declared ineligible for post graduation in the face of no recognition to RIMS by the Council has now urged the Institute's Director, K. Valleswari, to speed up the approval process, so that they don't lose out on an academic year.

They are also fearsome for their inability in filing their NEET PG applications, due to the present status of the institute, with the Council.

The students and the parents are hoping that all goes well when the 3 MCI inspectors come to the college in July to inspect the intensive care unit (ICU), the library, and the radiology units.

"We will be forced to embark on an agitation if the RIMS management and the State government remain indifferent to their demand," threatened B. Sriharsha, Junior Doctors' Association, President. They would not be able to get employed either, he lamented while speaking to The Hindu.
