A 20 crore infrastructure restructuring proposal for Wenlock: Health Minister

Bangaluru: A 20 crore restructuring proposal for District Government Wenlock Hospital was submitted to the National Health Mission by the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, UT Khader. The Minister informed that Wenlock had been chosen for accreditation by the National Accreditation Board of Hospitals (NABH), therefore it would be developed by giving it a new face through infrastructure.

According to

, Mr. Khader stated that "It is duty of the government to give facelift to the hospital by providing required infrastructure. We have already invited tenders for construction of a super specialty building for neurology and urology with a dedicated block for regional blood transfusion centre. The building will be constructed at a cost of Rs 15 crore and a contract for works worth Rs 5 crore has already been invited."

Mr. Khader said once the 22 crore project was approved they would get down to working on the already approved 50 bed aryurveda hospital for Wenlock by adding more infra structure.

Further, he reiterated there is no proposal before the government to continue the agreement with Kasturba Medical College (KMC) to use clinical facility at Wenlock Hospital. "As per the circular issued by department on December 29, 2014, the clinical facility extended to private medical college should end after the completion of their batch admitted in 2016-17. "

"The government has plans to set up a government medical college in Wenlock Hospital. While a new medical college in Bowring and Lord Curzon Hospital in Bengaluru has been sanctioned in the Budget, proposal to set up medical college in Wenlock is in the pipeline,"Mr. Khader added.
About government sanctions to health sector in Dakshina Kannada district, Khader he said that works worth Rs 21 crore will be taken up in 2016-17.


"A total of 12 new projects including construction of community health centres (CHC) at Uppinangady, Kadaba, Kokkada, public health centres (PHC) in Ambalamogaru, Manchi, Koornadu, Charmudi, ANM Centres in Madnur, Bajpe, Kaniyur, Mundage and Boliyar in the district will be taken up," Khader said.


Later, the minister and principal secretary to health and family welfare department M Lakshminaryana held meeting with officials with regard to development of Wenlock Hospital and Government Lady Goschen Hospital.
