9 medical colleges in UP have moved court for relief after MCI debarment

Lucknow: Management of 9 medical colleges in UP have filed petitions in the Allahabad High Court for the continuation of their colleges after the Health Ministry's debarment on student admissions.

The nine colleges that became functional 3 years ago started student admissions for the MBBS course from the 2016-17 academic session. It was in June that the apex education regulator (MCI), on discovering facilities available at the institution's substandard decided to debar them from admitting students and running the courses.

Five of these colleges are in western UP, two in Lucknow, while two are in Sitapur and Sultanpur districts.

According to sources, the Central Bureau of Investigations is scrutinizing the petitions filed by the nine colleges before the court. Sources also claim that the CBI is taking a close look at call detail records of trustees of the nine colleges to identify government functionaries in touch with them, while their matter was in Allahabad HC.

A recent report in TOI states that the Supreme Court is also believed to be looking into the role played by two Allahabad HC judges, who have entertained plea of GCRG Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow

On Thursday, CBI arrested a retired judge of the High Court IM Qudussi, two trustees of Prasad Institute of Medical Sciences, along with three others, as they allegedly tried to influence government functionaries for favourable orders.

Quddusi , an Allahabad HC judge for almost a decade before being transferred to Odisha in 2004 was also the Acting Chief Justice of Orissa HC before retiring in 2012. Some of the colleges that are under the scanner have an influential political backup reports TOI.
