40 Resident Doctors refused to apply for NEET SS 2019
Shimla: 40 Resident doctors who are intending to appear for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Super Speciality courses (NEET SS 2019) 2019 are stuck in a dilemma since the Himachal Pradesh Health Department has refused to grant permission to them to apply for the said examination.
The last date to apply for the NEET SS application is 30th April 2019. The reason for the said denial by the health department is reportedly the acute faculty crunch at the state-run medical colleges.
According to the authorities of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC Shimla) Shimla, Government Medical College, Tanda, and four new medical colleges at Nerchowk, Hamirpur, Chamba, and Nahan were reported to be facing acute faculty crunch. The setting up of the super speciality department would add on to the shortage of the faculty.
Earlier, the faculty members, qualified super specialists from IGMC Shimla were shifted to other Medical Colleges, running on ad hoc basis on deputation.
The Principal of the IGMC Dr Ravi Sharma had informed that the permission to appear for the examination was allowed by the State Health Department. The IGMC authorities had no role to play in this.
The President of Resident Doctors Association, IGMC told the Tribune, “Despite repeated requests to the Chief Minister and Health Minister for formulating a PG /DM policy for doctors allowing them to pursue higher courses; nothing has been done so far.”
NEET SS aspirants also demanded relaxation to the four-year bond service condition in view of a shortage of super-specialists in Himachal Pradesh.
The Medical Dialogues team earlier reported that state government planned to frame policies for doctors wherein a compulsory bond service of three to five years will be observed by the doctors, without which they won’t be handed over their PG degrees. The bond service observed after the completion of their post-graduate degree from any of the government medical colleges in Himachal.

The demands of the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of Himachal Pradesh gained the support of the United Resident Doctors’ Association of India. The association demanded a liberal policy where the doctors can pursue higher education.
