4 Odisha Medical colleges bag MCI approval for admission to 400 MBBS seats

Bhubaneswar: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has accorded its approval for MBBS admission in four Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) in Odisha for the academic year 2019-2020.


Informing about the same to the News agency PTI, Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das stated that admissions have been allowed for 100 MBBS seats each in




  • Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital in Balasore (second batch)

  • Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir, (second batch)

  • Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital in Mayurbhanj district (third batch)

  • Saheed Laxman Naik Medical College and Hospital in Koraput district (third batch)

The Letter of Permission has been issued by the Board of Governors in the supersession of MCI (MCI BoG) after consideration of compliance verification assessment report along with the observations of the member of the undergraduate expert group and subsequent submission of undertaking by the State Government to provide the required infrastructure, reports

The permission is valid for one year and only for admitting one batch of 100 students for the academic year 2019-2020. The next batch of students for the MBBS course will be admitted to the college only after the permission of Board of Governors in supersession of the MCI for renewal/recognition, the MCI stated as per a report by the Orissa Post


The process of renewal of permission will continue till the infrastructure and expansion of hospital facilities are completed as per MCI norms.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that with numerous medical colleges failing inspections on the grounds of infrastructural and organizational deficiencies, the Medical Council of India (MCI) is mulling over to revise its policy to provide its permission only to those medical colleges which have a functional hospital for a span of at least three years.
