370 MBBS seats granted by the MCI to Gujarat

Ahmedabad: 300 more medical seats have been approved by the Medical Council of India in government colleges at Surat, Jamnagar and a new self-financed medical college in Palanpur.


Alongside these a 70 seats approval for the medical college in Vadodara, earlier, has taken the seat tally for the year 2018-19 to 370. This has resulted in the total state tally of MBBS seats in 24 medical colleges rise from 3,830 to 4,200.


Deputy Chief Minister, Nitin Patel said, “We had sought an increase in the number of medical seats in state government-aided medical colleges of Vadodara, Surat, Jamnagar and the Self-Financed Institute in Palanpur to strengthen medical education in Gujarat as per state government’s Health Policy-2016. “


Of the 370, the number of seats increased in Surat is 100, Vadodara -70, Jamnagar Medical College – 50; while 150 seats have been approved for the Palanpur SFI.


The state government’s press note issued on Tuesday stated that Gujarat had 1,525 MBBS seats in 2005-06 and number has now increased to 4,200, reported Ahmedabad Mirror.
