11 Lakh MBBS fee at Hi Tech Medical College: Govt, College Management at STANDOFF

The fees for the MBBS course in the private medical colleges by the government were Rs 6.5 lakh. However, the medical institution allegedly demanded higher fees of Rs 11 lakh against the fixed fees from the MBBS students which held in gross violation of guidelines.


Bhubaneswar: An inquiry has been ordered against the Hi-Tech Medical College for allegedly denying admission to MBBS students while seeking high fees.


The Hi-Tech Medical College is the 1st Private Medical College of Eastern India and Odisha. It is a private, not for profit Medical College associated with 500 beds Tertiary Teaching Hospital. It has 100 MBBS annual seat intake, recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The medical college also offers Post Graduate courses in various disciplines like Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Community Medicine etc.

The fees for the MBBS course in the private medical colleges by the government were Rs 6.5 lakh. According to recent media reports, the medical institution allegedly demanded higher fees of Rs 11 lakh against the fixed fees from the MBBS students which held in gross violation of guidelines.


The medical college had recently seen an increase in the MBBS seats for which the management is allegedly demanding higher fees. This triggered resentment from the MBBS students as well as their parents.


Following the allegations made by the MBBS aspirants, the Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das ordered an inquiry into the matter. The government had directed the concerned officials to submit an inquiry report on the matter, reports the Pioneer.


The college authorities told the Pragativadi that a proposal was submitted a proposal to the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) in regard to the MBBS fee hike but it did not consider the proposal and so students will not be allowed to take admission in the institution.
