Ambulances ferrying alcohol, belly dancers at Alumni meet of Meerut Medical College

Meerut: The alumni bash of doctors held at Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College Hospital on Monday, crossed respectable boundaries when ambulances were seen ferrying cartons of liquor bottles to the venue of the get-together and Russian belly dancers swayed sensuously to foot tapping music to entertain alumni assembled to celebrate the event. The occasion was the silver jubilee celebration organized by the old school association at the Garh road premises of the college.

The principal-in-charge caught unawares about the goings on at the college alumni meet has ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident. Meanwhile, the Indian Medical Association(IMA) has condemned the incident reports Times Now.

Ambulance misuse for ferrying alcohol to the venue had lowered the institutional prestige of the college.

Dr KK Aggarwal of the IMA has stated that the use of ambulance in Meerut for ferrying alcohol had hurt the prestige of the organisation.

It is believed certain doctors of repute from the 1992 batch of Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College Hospital, were also in present for the event.

However, the Principal-in-charge of the hospital, Vinay Agarwal told the Times of India that it was not quite clear whether the ambulances being used for reaching alcohol to the venue belonged to the State’s government hospital or to other private hospitals.

According to information, the celebrations did cause inconvenience the patients too.
