A mere 7 percent foreign medical degree holders clear the FMGE

A mere 7 percent foreign medical degree holders clear the FMGE

Hyderabad: It is indeed ironic that in a state, where a maximum number of students sit for the FMGE exam, only 285 foreign medical graduates from Telangana registered with the Telangana Medical Council in 2016 and 2017. This  has been the output despite a few thousand having appeared from the state, after securing degrees from foreign universities in China and Ukraine.

A recent report in TOI states that a mere 7% of the approximate 8000 who appear pass the test conducted by the National Board of Examination held every six months.

According to the Telangana Medical Council statistics, those who have registered with them have secured their medical degrees from 26 countries. Interestingly, it has been observed in some cases that nationals from these countries are also keen to practice in India, for reasons both personal (marriage to Indian) and professional (posting in India), reports TOI.

The Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that an average 77 percent Indian students who returned with a foreign medical degree in the past 12 years have failed to clear the mandatory screening examination conducted by Medical Council of India.

Any citizen possessing a primary medical qualification awarded by any medical institution outside the country who wants provisional or permanent registration with MCI or any state medical council needs to qualify the screening test (known as Foreign Medical Graduates Examination) conducted by the MCI through the National Board of Examinations (NBE).

In a year-by-year break-up of the number of students who sat for the screening exam, data provided by NBE under RTI Act shows that since 2004, the number of instances of successful candidates crossing 50 percent of the total, who appeared was two, while in one particular instance, only 4 percent students passed the test.

The highest percentage of 76.8 successful candidates was registered way back in September 2005 when 2,851 students appeared for the test and 2,192 passed it.

  1. A country which has one of the worst doctor/ patient ratio should send these doctors who have not passed screening test for 3 years of rural compulsory posting, after which they should be given registration. This would fill rural centres , presently closed due to lack of doctors.

  2. It\’s not good to tag a group of doctors incompetent.FMG may have been target of Indianmedical mafia which comprises of MCI , NBE and IMA to purposefully harass the FMGs so that Indian private medical colleges get students.

Why is IMA protesting now if all the Indian medical colleges students are well educated, for what to fear?

Philosophy and idealistic approach is just for FMGs not the Indian private medical college students, or the other noncompetent ones educated in India.

  3. @ Dr Patnaik:
Mr Brahmin why are you against SC/ ST? Is it your genetic disease which prompts you to spew venom against non-swarna Hindu? Who are people responsible for over-all degeneration in the countrY? The people at the helm of the affairs are to blame: these are bureaucrats, ministers, judges and inspectors ( in MCI). And all these parasites come from one communiy- the parasite community ( the brahmaical clan). Who run all these pvt medical colleges? They are all from the parasite communiy ( read brahmin/ banya) who are selling medical degree for Rs 50 lacs. And who are these students who purchase these degrees in 50 lac? These all come from the same parasitic community ( swarna hindus). Further the \” cubs\” from parasitic community who can not pay 50 lac, they go to other countries and purchase medical degrees in 15-20 lac. All these come from your swarna hindus gangs. But a parasite ( read brahmin) will always ignore biggest crime committed by cubs of his clan and crib about non-existent crime committed by non-swarnas. As far as SC/ ST are concerned, they do not purchase these degree. Most of them get degrees form govt college where the training, examination is carried out for all the students same way by mostly \” SWARNA\” teachers/ examiners. These biased swarna teacher/ examiners may allow a non-deserving swarna student to get through the exam but will never allow non-swarna to clear exam if he is not up to the mark. Conclusion: the swarnas hindus are the root cause of degradation and perpetuation of medical and professional fields.

  4. We have to wait and see , only time will tell whether FMGs are the only duffers or we have other duffers too in the system. Quality of private medical college students is under question, then quality of reserved SC/ST from government medical colleges too would come out.It\’s only now that we have a level playing field , the same exam for Indian educated and foreign educated doctors.

Rather then stamping a group duffers , we should concentrate on screening all the duffers. Someone educated in Indian medical colleges is always a bright student and other guy who studied in a foreign medical college is alway a duffer is not the case always.

  7. This is an irrelevant news now. After NMC bill all MBBS students have to write licensing examination no matter indian or foreign graduates.
