58 Districts/Referral Hospitals in 20 states Upgraded: Minister of Health and Family Welfare
New Delhi: Under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme, "Establishment of New Medical Colleges attached with existing District/Referral Hospitals", 58 District /Referral hospitals in 20 states are being upgraded by the government.
The Minister Health, J.P. Nadda informed the parliament , that the districts to be covered under this plan did not have a medical college.The fund allocation under the scheme for one college being 189 crore and ratio of fund sharing between the centre and state 60:40 and 90:10 for NE/Special Category States, according to the Minister. He stated that the Scheme also covered up gradation of the existing infrastructure.
The Minister elaborated that the Scheme was to be implemented by the respective State Governments; Gondia in Maharastra being one of the immediate district identified for the establishment of a new medical college.
