400 cancer patients treated at Tanda Medical College since March this year
Kangra: More than 400 cancer patients have been treated at renowned Dr Rajinder Prasad Govt Medical College at Tanda popularly known as Tanda Medical College.
The treatment has been done through Linear Accelerator during the last nine months and it has been proving as a boon for the patients suffering from the dreaded disease.
Stating this, Tanda Medical College Principal Dr Bhanu Awasthi told UNI that oncology department of this medical college was equipped with the latest machinery especially the Linear Accelerator costing Rs 20 crore, one of the few centers across the country in government sector to provide such facilities.

He said that the treatment which is required in 70 to 80 per cent of cancer patients is carried through Linear Accelerator. He said that this has strengthened in providing state of the art health care facilities to the poor patients of this hill state.
Medical Dialogues has recently reported that the medical college is set to expand its service sector as the authorities of the institute, had decided to set up a Mother and Child Care Hospital.
The medical college has recently created a record of sorts by conducting 9788 institutional deliveries, highest in the state. Inspired by the same and to ease the pressure of the concerned Gynae department, the authorities decided to establish the hospital, which will start functioning in 2021.
Dr Bhanu Awasthi stated that to ease the heavy pressure on the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, work has started on the ambitious project, for which the Central government has provided a grant of Rs 39.64 crore.
Obstetrics and Gynecology department has already conducted total 7975 institutional deliveries by November this year, which is again a record.

In June this year, Tanda Medical College was ranked among the top medical colleges of the country as per a survey conducted by India Today on seven parameters including infrastructure, academic excellence and governance.
Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College is state-owned medical college and hospital located in district Kangra of Himachal Pradesh.
The foundation stone was laid by the then Chief Minister Sh. Virbhadra Singh on 23rd Oct. 1996.
The first batch of 50 MBBS students was admitted in 1998. Since then, the intake of MBBS students has increased to 100 seats.
