34 new private medical colleges get Oversight Committee nod

New Delhi: The Supreme Court mandated Oversight Committee (OC) on Medical Council of India (MCI) has approved the establishment of 34 new private medical colleges for the current session with certain conditions, Rajya Sabha was told.

The Oversight Committee also approved seven colleges each for private and government, for increase in seats or starting of Super Speciality Courses, Minister of State for Health Faggan Singh Kulaste said in a written reply.

He was asked whether the OC headed by Justice (retd) R M Lodha had given clearances to many private medical colleges which were put in abeyance by MCI inspectors that found glaring deficiencies.

“The Supreme Court mandated oversight Committee (OC) on MCI approved following schemes or proposals of the applicant medical colleges for the year 2016-17 with certain conditions.

“Establishment of New Medical Colleges – – 34 private, 0 government; Increase of intake capacity – -7 private colleges, one government; renewal of permission – 30 private and O for government,” the Minister said.

In August, the panel had slammed the medical education regulator MCI, saying it “disregarded” its directives by not conducting fresh inspection of medical colleges.

The Oversight Committee (OC) said it had resolved in its meeting held on June 13 that all applicant medical colleges, which were not given an opportunity to present their compliance to deficiencies communicated by MCI, be given an opportunity to do so by June 22.

  1. MCI debarred Sridev Suman Subharti Medical College Dehradun and Cencelled the admissions and encashed the bank guarantee for not fulfilling the criteria as per MCI Act and Regulations after directives of OC.

  2. AFTER THE OC PERMISSION HELATH MINISTRY AND MCI conducted Inspection of These Colleges and has to verify the compliance and affidavit given by Colleges . Where is that Report ?????

  3. Looking at the way that new medical colleges are being sanctioned and old ones not fulfilling criteria are getting the nod to make admissions based on pure written assurances and conditions, the day is not far when the medical education system will completely collapse. The MCI even though corrupt would never have allowed such colleges to start or make admissions, but the Oversight Committee whose members do not have any knowledge of medical education and its basic requirements have made a complete mess and created a future health disaster for the citizens of this country. God save the people who get treated by doctors who graduate from such medical colleges. Graduating from such colleges wont be a problem as the results also will be manipulated in the students favour. I just hope that this sanction of new medical colleges is challenged in the highest court of the country by well meaning doctors. Surely, the members of the OC are not above law even though an ex-CJI and neither are they always correct in whatever they do!

Sri Dev Suman Subharti Medical College Dehradun…Land in in 3 pieces at 3 Villages…land use agricultural….several cases and disputes in court ..all property mortgage and in POSSESION of banks NIT FULLFILLING CRITERIA AS PERM ESTABLISHMENT OF MEDICAL COLLEGES REGULATIONS 1999….during inspection all faculty shown just joined from their another unit of merrut (on rent) moreover Uttarakhand Govt wrote letter to Ministry, MCI and OVERSITE COMMITEE for so many discrepancies. So my question is when conditional Permission Granted by taking affidavit and Bank Gurantee and after that permission (current conditional permission )and before permission since last 4 years(as MCI and ministry reject8ng this college since last 4 years die to same problems ) ALL FACTS KNOWN TO MINISTRY AND MCI THEN WHY ARE TILL DATE NOT CENCELLING THE LOP AND WHY ARE NOT FORFEITING THE BANK GURANTEE AND bann college FOR 2 YEARS..WHY DELAYING ? WHEN CBI WILL INTERVENING ON OVERSITE COMMITTEE OFFICERS MEETING AT 5 STAR HOTELS ? Why playing with future of students….
