2nd year MBBS student commits suicide
The girl took this extreme step finding herself alone in the police quarters at Marshingpet, on Saturday, after returning from Madurai, where she lived in the college hostel.
Her father was on his afternoon duty at K.K. Nagar police station, while her mother was away in Sri Lanka for a condolence, said police sources.
The girl who was apparently not interested in pursuing medicine, allegedly hung herself with a dupatta. The victim's father who called her on her mobile, after reaching duty, on getting no response, as her phone was switched off, alerted a friend and asked him to go to his house and check.
The girl is alleged to have bolted the door from inside, so it had to be broken to enter. The body was sent to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital, here for post mortem. The Palakkarai Police have registered a case reports The Tribune.
Assistance for overcoming suicidal thoughts is available on the State’s health helpline ‘104’ and Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline 044 24640050.
